Does looks matter?

I just re-watch an episode of Journey to the West, the '96 version, tonight. A question rise to my mind. Would you marry an ugly person?? Does looks matter??

I think I was in episode 7, where Wu Kong came to the Gao village and was about to capture Ba Jie. The beaten Ba Jie went back to the hotel where he and his wife stay. He covered his face in fear that his newly wed wife would see what he really look like, a pig demon. Ba Jie was really worry. He asked his wife, "What would you do if I am ugly? Would you still marry me?" His wife reply "What are you talking about? Are you okay?" Ba Jie reinterate, "Are you still going to marry me if I am ulgy?" "Of course. What is wrong with you today? You are asking weird question."

Then Ba Jie's stomach start to expand. He tried to cover his stomach and the cloth that was covering his face fall off. ^____^ His wife was shcok. She fainted, fell down and hit her head on the pillow and die. (Pillows back then were actually a piece of wood cover by a piece of cloth.) She hit her head on a piece of wood, and died.

Ba Jie was sad and mad. He blamed Monkey King for the death of his wife. So he find Monkey King to fight, to take revenge. Guess who win?? ^___^ MONKEY KING! hehehehe

If you were in Ba Jie's wife shoe and didn't died when you saw what Ba Jie really look like, would you still be with him or would you storm out of that room screaming "Ahhhhh.. MONSTER!"?


Probably everybody going to choose running out the room screaming huh? ^___^

I would do that too. But if I found out that he is not an imposter (he didn't kill my husband ) and that he is that same person I marry, I probably would reconsider.

I know I wouldn't remarry. That's for sure. I do believe in a 1 marriage deal.


I guess looks does matter in a way huh? And it do depend on the person too. Did I just answer my own question? ^___^

If people could just get pass the material things, they can achieve enlightment. But I doubt I can.

Ba Jie's master tried to convince him in the latter episode that looks doesn't matter. Everybody is going to turn into a skeleton anyway. Enlightment is the only true road. (From an episode where Ba Jie is trying to marry the princess. Monkey King just got kick out of the group.)
